Flash Fiction
The potato, so magnificent yet so insignificant, grown in great numbers to be consumed in great numbers, from the first down to the last, some may be lost and never found. While others produce great treasures.
Rationale
My portrait and flash fiction are about finding answers in life. The story is about looking for potatoes that are just one or finding them in broader way. Like I may look for a potato that’s different from the rest of the batch and wonder why it’s like that ,whereas in life maybe I find an answer to a problem but the answer provides more problem that might never get solved. In some cases some people may never find their answer and in others people find exactly what they need.
One-Pager
In the past, history has shown that nations and countries be bias towards a lot of thing. The nation’s biases shaped the people's biases to whatever the nation believed. Now recently we have more democratic or free nations with the freedom for people to be able to choose or say their biases. People of these nations can be now be made up of multiple biases which bring up more to debate and people will argue fight between each other because of their biases. Scientists now have studied and still are what make up someone’s biases. For example in a ted talk on how to overcome bias, people were asked on why they marry someone and some responded that they do it because the partner will stay as the same person. This in one way shows that people don’t expect people other people to change or overcome certain biases. Another situation is that in the article “higher education” a black man came to an Amish town and surprised everyone that he was able to follow the rules and that he was the best of them. This stuck them very hard and changed the whole community. We see that one situation people think people won’t change and in the other situation one person changed the whole community of people.
In one podcast from NPR episode 46: entitled “Sissies” this is about a boy who was transgender and his father was very opposed to it he wanted very much for his “son” to change to his son and he says “I would sell all the land in Palestine for you” which shows he would give up a lot for his son to overcome his transgender-ism. And land in their culture symbolizes much more than just “land” too. There is also pressure in society, like in “Growing up Trans”, one of the children said “it was like living a double life.” where there trying to live the way the like but sense society today still expect boys to be boys and girls to be girls. So far people have expected people to be very the same of what they are to stay what they are but another example is in another podcast on “personality myth”. Where the interviewer got to know one of the prisoners as one of the nicest people she met but then was shocked that his crime was that he raped a women. This shows that people can multiple biases or personality that can be changed.
I think that personality has a lot to do with growing up. I believe this because that part of life were learning about everything and what's accepted and what's not. We also learn or “learn” about biases we didn’t even know we had. However I also believe that people can overcome biases or change personality. Now how much it takes to change their view can differ but i think overall people can be changed. Like back to the man who was put in prison for rape, when he first met the interviewer and from that point till she was told of his crime thought he was one of the nicest people she met. That can mean that people can change and/or they can multiple personalities. All in all, this eventually shows that people can at least adapt to change the biases and personalities.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have found another way to incorporate potatoes into your writing. I've never really considered that there could be a deeper meaning to potatoes. All in all, I think that your writing reflects you as a person, serious and funny. The one pager flows together great as well. I hope one day you ill find that potato.

Your portrait goes well with your flash fiction and your rationale, because in your rationale you talked about searching for answers to the questions and problems that you have in life. Your portrait also shows you "searching" for something, in a potato farm, while your flash fiction talked about searching for potatoes, which is why your rationale goes well with your portrait and flash fiction.
ReplyDeleteI think your portrait, rationale, and flash fiction are all really well written. They make a great comparison between something people might assume to be unimportant and unrelated, the potato, to something very broad and significant, finding answers to those huge questions you might encounter in life. I also like how you incorporated many different sources in your one pager and were still able to tie them all together in a central topic.
ReplyDeleteThis really grabbed my attention, because it connects together very well. The image and the rational fit together and they help each other out. The flash fiction, and rational brought a connection to something that people may assume to be unimportant, but yet it is. I liked how you incorporated potatoes into finding an answer to life, as a symbol.
ReplyDeleteI like how you included potatoes into your writing. It gives potatoes another meaning and something else to view it as instead of just a delicious food. This writing as a whole is really good. Looking at things from someone else's perspective is important because you may have different thoughts or ideas about something.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture and the idea of potatoes. Your writing just slides so smooth and its funny.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you gave potatoes a greater meaning. I like how optimistic you are and how you keep looking for answers in your life. I also think your one pager is very well written.
