My Life
By: D.J. Pierce
Waking up in the morning to go across town selling this,
selling that, buying this just to sell it again. Moms out of work and someone
needs to cover the other half of rent. Getting stabbed and being rushed to the
hospital, parents fighting constantly while being beat by my brother, grandma
getting cancer while I’m wanting to be with her, growing up depressed before I
even knew what depression even was. By the time I was 12 I was doing the drugs
I was selling years before, me trying to change my life around basically before
it started. Regretting everything, the things I did, living, as I’m sitting
there hoping that no one will ever go through the things I did, hoping no one
will turn out to be anything like me, I learned how to use a gun if ever needed
and I used a knife on someone when I was 11 in self-defense hoping that I
wouldn’t be killed in the process but I was jumped later that year. A cracked
skull in 2 different place, a fractured shin and dislocated disk, laying on the
ground in a puddle of blood left for dead hoping for someone to come and
potentially save my life. Ambulance on its way and everything starts to fade
away, I awake to find out that I died on the way to the hospital. I’ve
technically died 3 times in my “life”. The most recent time I died was in
Lincoln Park Michigan where I was hit by a car going approximately 50 miles an
hour, I was revived at the scene while my friend was crying on the corner of
the street. Now begins the next chapter of my story the present and future.
I think your flash fiction is really good because it pulls the reader in so they are hanging on your every word. I can't wait to see what picture you pair up with this to really bring your message across. I think when people hear your story it will really make them think about how fragile life is and I also think that it will give some people a huge splash of reality. Some people really need to be shown what really happens in this world and that not everyone has it easy.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine how i would feel if i was in your shoes. You've been through so much and yet you are still at school everyday trying to get an education. you should be proud of yourself, you've died 3 times but you're still alive, you're still fighting for your life. Throughout everything you've been through all of this will just make you stronger. One day when you're at a very successful time in your life you will look back and feel very proud of yourself. Your story really makes the reader view life in a different way, makes them feel like life isn't as easy as it sounds and people gotta work harder than others do to succeed. I got nothing but respect for you.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear what you went through as a child DJ and I admire how you are try to lead others down a better path. As a friend I cannot believe that you could smile and laugh with me with this behind closed doors, you have such a great strength. Your piece was portrayed perfectly!
ReplyDeleteReading your piece just goes to show that no matter what someone is going through in their life that there is someone going through something worse than they could even imagine happening to themselves or someone else. Not many people are able to know what it's like to be afraid of dying at the hands of someone else because they're trying to help someone else. While I was reading your piece, I wasn't able to put myself in your shoes because I don't understand the things you had to go through already.
ReplyDeleteI think that your flash fiction really pulls the reader into your situation and makes them want to keep reading. It's impressive that you've been through this much and still continue to be at school everyday to be able to get one step closer to success. Your piece makes readers realize that life isn't easy and that each person is lucky to be alive.
