Rational
Life sucks sometimes. From loss of
loved ones to just being a high schooler during a time where people value
themselves more than others. My flash fiction piece is supposed to show you’re
going to have bad life experiences and it’s ok to feel bad for yourself but at
the same time you need to pick yourself up and keep on going. Two years ago I
lost my grandpa to heart failure and my aunt to cancer in a short period of
time. That wasn’t bad enough I guess because a few months later we had to put
my dog down because she was extremely sick to the point where she lost 22
pounds in 3 days and struggled to walk. That’s why this flash fiction resembles
me so well. Life has thrown obstacles and pain my way and no matter how bad it
gets I keep on going with my life.
Personality
For the most part the public
believes that personality is the most important thing about a person. Everybody
talks about “real” vs “fake” and how you should be true to whom you are, you
shouldn’t make up who you are for popularity or the sense of belonging. It
feels like the public puts a lot of pressure on us humans to have good
personalities. With the use of social media people attack each other in ways
that make them look like a crappy person or someone who has the lack of a good
personality.
In the podcast “the personality
myth” I heard the claim “take away personality and there’s nothing to love.”
This podcast really goes into depth about how they believe personality is what
makes somebody who they are. The podcast keeps expressing on the topic and even
has an interview with an inmate. During the interview the inmate mentions “it
was easier to be no good.” He’s saying that your personality is what you make
of it. It’s up to you to choose who you want to be in this world.
I agree with what was said in the
podcast. All of my closest friends I genuinely like their personalities and who
they are. Your personality is YOU, from the way you act and feel to your
decisions in life. I feel like you control what your personality is, if you want
to hate everything in life and dislike association with others than you can do
that, if you want to love every single second of your life and smile at
everybody you see you can do that as well. Overtime I believe your personality
can change but how or why it changes is all up to you.

First of all I'm sorry for the loss of your grandpa, aunt, and dog all within a short period of each other. I can't imagine going through something like that. Your blog post really shows that you have taken a stand against life and that even though you may not have control of what happens, you can bounce back. If you were to continue working on this the only suggestion I would make would be to site the podcast and say who it is by.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear your loss I have also lost loved ones, and its not easy. I am however glad to hear that you don't let it stop you from being you. Thank you for sharing, and this is a story I will remember for a long time.
ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss. I've been through a situation like that myself. I know exactly how it feels. Your piece is very relateable and that's what makes a good piece. It motivates you to better yourself everyday.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in saying that you control your personality and what you choose to be. Almost like saying you control your own destiny or something. Your title shows how you take on life i think. You can take a stand or you can just let life happen to you.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the fact that you dealt with all your losses in a short time span well but I also am so sorry you had to deal with that. Your one-pagers format is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your losses, i know how much it sucks to lose people and i think you're right, you have to keep going because there isn't really another option. so i think that being optimistic is the best way to get through those kind of things.
ReplyDeleteWow... your piece is so powerful it leaves the readers speechless or at a loss for words. It is also something that everyone can relate to, you some how reached down and pulled out a flash fiction that effects everyone in some way shape or form. You also were very brave to show people or your readers such a vulnerable side of you. I really appreciated and enjoyed your piece it definitely has left me thinking.
ReplyDeletedefinitely relatable , sorry for all your loses bro, but they say what don't kill you make you stronger and you really showed great strength while we were playing football. You have to be a great person to constantly overcome obstacles time and time again.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that really grabbed me in your portrait was your flash fiction. It got emotional but yet still inspired me and gave out a positive vibe. Also, after reading your one-pager, it left me with a lot to think about because I think a lot of what you said is right, that being in a way we have control over who we are as a person.
ReplyDeleteI would like to start things off by saying I am sorry for the loss, it was really deep but so well written. And from this I agree life does beat you up but in the end it makes you stronger in so many ways so stay positive man.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very well put together project and really touches on personality really well. Your transitions were excellent and i could really feel your heart typing and not your fingers. Good job dude.
