On the beach the sun is high in the sky, but it still feels
dark. Wind blowing through her hair. She doesn’t belong here. She is a
wanderer, an adventurer.
My image is of me by a beach in Iowa. I chose to use this
picture because I feel like my hair in the picture represents me being ‘free’.
I love to adventure and visit new places even if it is just in or around Cedar Rapids.
Colors are happy, I put the picture in black and white to represent that I feel
like I don’t belong here. I belong somewhere where adventure is non-stop. I
always feel like staying here has nothing to offer for me. Other people do
belong here, but I have always felt like I don’t belong in Iowa.
One Pager:
Are our identities formed by us or who we are surrounded by?
Most people think that we gain our personalities by the time we are able to
talk, and that once we know who we are, we can’t be changed. Often times,
people assume that your behavior is what you always will be. Although this can
be true people should know that your physical and external identity can be very
different, and most people don’t subject to this idea.
Many people say that “your personality is who you are”. Many
people also think that “people don’t really change”. Once you show people who
you are they believe that is who you will always be. “If you are able to bad
things, there has to be something evil in you”. You can’t change people only
they can change themselves.
My identity was formed by my personality and who I grew up
around. I think we control our identities because your personality is what
makes you, you. I didn’t grow up with any stereotypical biases. I was taught
that I should accept everyone no matter who they are, what they like to do, or
what they look like. I think this really shaped me to become the kind and
excepting person I am today, unlike many people in the world who don’t believe
this.
The picture you have is really pretty and I liked how you explained the relations between your piece and your picture. The black and white filter sends the exact message you wanted it to.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost like you belong in Cali or something. What really grabbed my attention was when you said "Somewhere where the adventure is non-stop," because what is there here in Iowa? Like honestly? Another thing is the sentence "You can’t change people only they can change themselves" because that's true. If they arent willing to do something, ultimately they wont.
ReplyDeleteThe picture and flash fiction go well with the rationale, Your one-page also well supports what you think about how personality changes.
ReplyDeleteI really like your image, because despite the fact you cant see your face, I think you were still able to represent yourself well, which you did a very good job of explaining in your authors note. I like how deeply your editing of the photo also ties into the overall portrayal of your work.
ReplyDeleteI feel like your image represents your want to have adventures in other places really well. Your flash fiction and your rationale are written well and your one pager is good as well.
